Voice recording applications are not hard to find on the Internet, but finding a comfortable one, which you will want to keep, can prove to be challenging. Few applications can match iScream's simplicity. If you wish to record yourself with a microphone, you only need to click a dock icon and the application will start recording right away. It is compatible with Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard) and all later editions, including the recently released Mac OS X 10.10 (Yosemite).

iScream comes with a clean and efficient user interface, on which you can find Record and Pause buttons. Finished recordings show up in a list, on the same window, along with options for revealing their location in Finder and for removing them from the list. Recordings are stored in MP3 format, in a default folder, which you can change in the general settings menu.

Interacting with the application's user interface is optional. A good alternative is to simply click iScream's dock icon, to start a recording process. A timer is displayed on the aforementioned icon, while recording, so you will know how much you have recorded, without bringing up the user interface. You can set the application to execute another action when clicking the dock icon, in the general settings menu, where you can also set up hotkeys, choose another output format and more.

Pros

You can start a voice recording process instantly, just by clicking a dock icon. The application stores the recording automatically, without asking for any user input. It is offered free of charge and it can be installed in no time.

Cons

There are no obvious drawbacks to speak of. Finding a voice recording application that is simpler and more straightforward than iScream can be a real challenge.
